L1 LLCER ANGLAIS theme (D. Gavin)

L1 LLCER 2020. Thème / Translation   Teacher: Dominic Gavin / dominic.gavin@univ-tln.fr   Course description: The course involves the translation of a variety of texts from French into English. Texts are given to the students every week. They have to translate them and the correction is done in class the week after.   In the first part of the semester we will look at literary texts, in the second half we will translate excerpts from blogs and newspaper articles as a way of improving your colloquial English.   Testing: There will be two exams during the semester. The first is before the October holiday, the second at the end of the course, in January. Both will be in the classroom. The final exam will be a translation of a text of about 300 words. Both American and British English are acceptable, as long as the student is consistent.   Students are encouraged to bring French/English or English dictionaries to the class. The final exam will take place without a dictionary.   Participation may count to your final grade: if you miss too many classes your grade will be lowered.   Here are some websites you might find useful for improving your general English   https://www.americanrhetoric.com/moviespeeches.htm https://lyricstraining.com/ http://www.bbc.co.uk/learningenglish/ https://www.engvid.com/ https://www.ted.com/talks
