Course Objectives:
To maintain or develop the following:
- English language skills, including passive skills (listening and reading comprehension), while emphasising speaking skills.
- confidence in speaking general English in class, but also around relevant topics such as money and business.
- organisational skills (following instructions and meeting deadlines)
- interpersonal skills (working in a group)
- professional communication (communicating with the teacher, presentations, body language, eye contact)
Course Outcomes:
By the end of the course students should be able to:
- understand the main ideas of written and audio texts at B1-B2 level in English
- understand and use grammar and vocabulary related to their field of study: money and business
- speak general English, as well as English related to economics, more fluently and confidently
Assessment methods
What?
- General spoken English level - accuracy, variety, pronunciation and fluency
- Listening and reading comprehension B1 level
- Grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary acquired during the course
- General communication skills - body language, eye contact, etc.
- Organisational skills
- Teamwork skills
- Effort / Participation
How?
- 10% Online exercises on Moodle (weekly homework) - participation mark
- 50% Oral assessment: Create an original advertisement in pairs (groups of 2) - upload to Screencastify for week 9 to be viewed in class in week 10
- 40% Final B1-B2 written exam - week 12: multiple-choice questions on listening comprehension, reading comprehension, vocabulary/grammar/pronunciation acquired during the course
- Regular in class contributions & participation will be rewarded with the final grade rounded up to the nearest 0.5.
