This course is designed to improve the quality of your written (as well as language skills more generally) in English and raise your awareness of some of the issues which arise in the French to English translation (thème) process. While it is not a grammar or vocab course per se, thème provides an interesting opportunity to expand vocabulary and become more proficient with certain grammatical structures. Emphasis is on the practice of French to English translation through a variety of mainly (though not exclusively) literary prose styles. The course will also introduce you to some of the basic practices of translation more generally.
