This course focuses on the study of The Secret River (2006) by Kate Grenville, a major contemporary Australian novel that explores the history of colonial Australia. Combining lectures and seminars, the course relies on close reading of selected passages to examine issues related to colonisation, power dynamics, questions of otherness, land ownership, violence, and moral responsibility. Students will be encouraged to reflect critically on the legacy of British colonialism and its representation in contemporary literature. Ouvrage obligatoire :Grenville, Kate. The Secret River.
