We will be studying English in the context of tourism and leisure. We will look at the experience and management of tourism in different countries. Exercises will be provided in class and as homework in order to test your knowledge of grammar and vocabulary.  L2 LEA.   Thème. 2020   Teacher: Dominic Gavin / dominic.gavin@univ-tln.fr   Course description: This semester we will be translating extracts from the news on current affairs and business. Texts are given to the students every week. You have to translate them before the next class and the correction is done collectively the week after. Testing: There will be two exams during the semester. The first is before the October holiday, the second at the end of the course. The final exam will be a translation of a text of about 300 words. Both American and British English are acceptable, as long as the student is consistent. Participation in class activities contributes to your final grade. Participation may count to your final grade: if you miss too many classes your grade will be lowered. Students are encouraged to bring French/English or English dictionaries to the class. Grammar guides are also welcome. The final exam will take place without a dictionary.    

L2 LLCER.   33c Expression-compréhension. 2020   Teacher: Dominic Gavin / dominic.gavin@univ-tln.fr   Room Y1.207   In the first half of the semester we will look at aspects of English grammar including phrasal verbs, idioms and modal verbs (‘I should,’ ‘I might’ etc).   In the rest of the semester we will practice listening and writing responses to the listening exercises. There will be two in-class tests, which together count to 80% of your final grade.
